As a Technical Purchaser for almost two years, I’m co-responsible the purchasing and negotiating materials and goods (such as nuts, bolts, aluminium, and steel) for the factory.
My workday usually starts at around 7.30 a.m. Then it’s still nice and quiet and I have time to do certain jobs without being interrupted. I check my emails and try to see if any urgent jobs have arrived overnight. For example, if an order is needed earlier than scheduled. Fortunately, we have a very handy system that shows which goods must be ordered. Based on what the system shows me, I submit proposals to our various suppliers and negotiate the best price and delivery time with them. After we’ve come to an agreement, I place the order.
When the goods arrive, I carry out a random check to see whether they comply with the quality requirements we defined for the order. Sometimes the goods don’t comply with the requirements or have been damaged during transport or the like. Then it’s my job to notify the supplier about this by sending photos and a report of my findings.
My job as a Purchaser is very dynamic and overlaps with many other departments in our organization. One moment I’m in the factory talking about the materials/tools that we need. The next moment I’m sitting around the table with the manager monitoring the state of affairs. The great thing about my specialist area is that I can negotiate a good price for the organization. It’s a bit like viewing and booking a holiday. The satisfied feeling that it gives you!
What I really like about this company is that the Board/management is not in a glass cage. Everybody is always open for either a conversation about work or just a friendly chat. The nicest things are of course the drinks parties on Fridays or the trips with colleagues and family. Working for this company, I feel I belong here and it’s as if I’m part of the family. I feel at home here!
