As Manager Research & Development, I manage the R&D team and focus on product development at Van der Valk Solar Systems.
My workdays are very varied due to the diversity of the work. My activities include work distribution in the team, carrying out research, generating solutions, sketch and 3D drawing, making demos, testing, writing reports, contacting customers and suppliers, and creating item numbers. No two days are the same!
Over the years, our work has changed a lot. The programmes and machines that we work with are still evolving and Van der Valk Solar Systems is growing all the time. Whereas in the past we made all our demos by hand, we now use the latest 3D printers.
We recently worked on developing the ValkPro+ system. With the existing system, solar panels can be placed on a flat roof in landscape configuration under 10°. The market wondered whether the ValkPro+ system could also be implemented in 10° portrait and 15° landscape. To meet this demand, new ValkPro+ legs were developed and wind-tunnel tests were carried out to calculate the amount of ballast required.
The R&D team is constantly improving the current solutions and developing new products and systems. For me, the most enjoyable part of the work is finding a solution and turning it into a saleable product.
On 14 February, I celebrated twelve and a half years at the company and I hope to celebrate my silver jubilee here too!
