At Valk Solar Systems, we opt for steel with a lower environmental impact wherever possible. A key part of this is sourcing steel that carries XCarb® Steel Certificates.
XCarb® Steel Certificate: steel with verifiable CO₂ reduction
What is the XCarb® Steel Certificate?

Since 2023, Van der Valk Solar Systems has been sourcing steel under the XCarb® Steel Certificate programme run by steel producer ArcelorMittal. Through this initiative, we as a company actively contribute to ArcelorMittal’s investments in making the most polluting production processes within the steel industry more sustainable. In return for these investments, we receive certificates detailing the CO₂ savings achieved within the supply chain.
The CO₂ reduction achieved per unit of steel purchased offsets the steel’s entire carbon footprint. The CO₂ savings recorded on the certificates have been verified by the independent body DNV and are transferable within the supply chain. We can pass on these CO₂ savings to our customers for completed projects in which this steel has been used.
What does this mean for our products?
By choosing the XCarb® Steel Certificate:
- We ensure full offsetting of the CO₂footprint of the steel used;
- We support the steel producer in making polluting processes more sustainable;
- We offer our customers the opportunity to report verifiable CO₂ reductions;
Application in our systems
We use steel with XCarb® Steel Certificates in the following systems and components:
- ValkTop Carports
- ValkPro+ roof beams and load-bearing beams
- ValkPro+ Max NextGen roof beams and load-bearing beams
- ValkPro+ Max Portrait roof beams and load-bearing beams
Reporting realised CO₂ savings

We provide a clear overview of the CO₂ savings achieved by a ValkTop Carport project and transfer these to the carport owner. We record the savings in a certificate containing the project details, the CO₂ savings achieved and the corresponding XCarb® certificate numbers.
This gives our customers insight into the sustainable impact of their projects and enables them to demonstrably incorporate this information into their own sustainability targets and reports.
